Connecting HDTV
Set-Top Boxes For Terrestrial, Satellite And Cable Reception.
Many users will employ a set-top box and a separate display to receive HDTV and other
digital services. Shown below are examples of current products for HDTV reception and a
generalized model for installation planning
Terrestrial - Samsung SIR-T165
The unit provides inputs for 8VSB from the antenna or cable (F connectors), one output and
dual inputs for composite NTSC and stereo audio (RCA connectors), component outputs with
stereo audio from composite NTSC and DTV signals (RCA connectors), RGB component output
(mini DB-15 connector), and digital audio stream for a Dolby Digital decoder in both coax
and fiber connections. S-Video, Firewire and DVI are not supported. Component outputs may
be in at 480p, 720p or 1080i formats.
Satellite - ExpressVu 6000HD
The unit provides a single input for the satellite signal coming from the LNB at the
antenna (F connector), dual outputs of composite NTSC with stereo audio (RCA connections),
an S-Video output of NTSC, component output of DTV/HDTV (Y, PR, PB on RCA connectors), RGB
components (mini DB-15 connector) and digital audio stream for a Dolby Digital decoder
fiber connection. Firewire, DVI are not supported. Transactions are supported on a
telephone connection (RJ-11).
Cable Scientific Atlanta 3250HD
The unit provides a single input for the cable signal and a pass through to other devices
such as a cable modem (F connectors), outputs of composite NTSC with stereo audio (RCA
connections), an S-Video output of NTSC, component output of DTV/HDTV (Y, PR, PB on RCA
connectors) and digital audio stream for a Dolby Digital decoder (RCA connector), DVI
connection of component video output (DVI connector and Firewire connection 6 pin
version). RGB connection on mini DB-15 is not supported.
