TSNs annual holiday tradition continues with the 2005 IIHF World Junior Hockey
Championship from Grand Forks, N.D. from December 25 to January 4, as the worlds
best junior hockey players from 10 countries compete for gold medal glory.
TSN will broadcast all of Team Canadas games, four preliminary round matches not
involving Team Canada, plus the quarter-finals, semifinals, Bronze Medal Game and Gold
Medal Game. All games will be produced in High Definition.
TSNs Gord Miller will call the play-by-play action alongside colour commentator
Pierre McGuire. Gino Reda will host TSNs studio show on-site in North Dakota and
will be joined by TSN Hockey Insider Bob McKenzie. Rinkside reporter Ryan Rishaug will
file daily reports for SportsCentre leading up to and during the tournament. Rishaug will
also be on-site from Winnipeg during Team Canadas selection camp. Each report on
SportsCentre also features analysis from TSN hockey experts Miller, McGuire and McKenzie.
TSN kicks off its comprehensive World Juniors coverage with a special World Junior Hockey
Championship Preview Show on Friday, Dec. 24 at 11:30 p.m. ET. Hosted by Reda and
McKenzie, the 60-minute program offers a variety of features, including Miller sitting
down for a special one-on-one interview with Team Canada head coach Brent Sutter.
TSN is the host broadcaster for this years tourney and is sending a 50-person
production crew to North Dakota. TSN has televised the World Juniors since 1991, and the
tournaments appeal as a viewer favourite is evident as the top three highest-rated
TSN programs of all-time are World Junior broadcasts. TSNs coverage of the Gold
Medal Game from the 2003 World Juniors in Halifax attracted the largest audience in
network history with 3.5 million viewers. TSN also won a Gemini Award for Best Live
Sporting Event for coverage of the final game.
Leading up to the tournament, TSN.ca is asking fans to select Canada's All-Time World
Junior team. Visitors can cast their votes by selecting two goalies, six defencemen and 12
forwards from a list of previous players who have represented Canada at the World Juniors.
The results will be unveiled on TSN.ca following Hockey Canada's selection of
Canadas 2005 World Junior team on December 16. TSN.ca will also provide regular
features, a live scoreboard for all of Team Canada's games, as well as reports and
interviews during training camp and the tournament.
