At present, COGECO (TQS, CFJP-DT, Montreal, ch. 42) has received a license and is now working to install a transmitter on Mt. Royal. The CDTV transmitter on ch. 62 broadcasts demonstration material. Bell ExpressVu broadcasts HDTV English services at present.

If I can't get any channel, when can I expect to get the Burlington/Plattsburgh HDTV feeds?

In Montreal, CFJP-DT has been licensed on ch. 42 and Radio Canada is planning on an HD service in the near future. There exist problems with the Mount Royal tower that are delaying the start dates. From Burlington, VT. WETK-DT (PBS) expects to be on-air by the end of this year on ch. 32. The commercial networks are planning 2005/2006 start-ups for HD services in Burlington/Plattsburg. Videotron carries US networks on its cable network as premium services, so you can certainly begin to get HD in Montreal.
If you are not shadowed by terrain, such as Mount Royal, you should be able to receive Burlington services with a roof top antenna. A yagi antenna, such as the Winegard 9014 or 9018 with a low-noise antenna pre-amplifier, such the Winegard AP-4700 is recommended. Similar products are also available from Delhi Antennas and from Lindsay Antennas.

I believe that the CDTV test transmitter was broadcasting on channel 64 but my new set has not been able to detect it. Channel 62 is used by CH Montreal for its analogue broadcasts.
WETK (PBS) in Burlington will NOT be broadcasting digitally by the end of the year. It will only be able to do so when the shared facilities on Mount Mansfield have been completed towards the end of 2006.
However, Mountain Lake PBS (WCFE) in Plattsburgh recently started digital broadcasting into the Montreal area from its Lyon Mountain facility on vitual channels 57.1 and 57.2 (physical channel is 38). Channel 57.1 broadcasts the PBS HD channel (1080i) and 57.2 broadcasts a standard definition (480i) digital version of Mountain Lake's analogue programming.

The off-the-air (OTA) US and Canadian television networks are building their infrastructure around the big Canadian cities like Toronto, Montreal and Ottawa or OTA signal is available to canadian cities close to US borders. What is the plan to make the US and Canadian high-def television networks available to smaller cities like Quebec or Chicoutimi? are the only options cable or satellite?

Canadian broadcasters are starting their HDTV coverage in the major markets and will gradually move out to the smaller markets as the costs become acceptable. Eventually all TV broadcast stations will have to be digital and will then be capable of carrying HDTV, where such programming is available. In the US, even the small markets are now covered, after 8 years or so from the first installations. Likely Canada will move at about the same pace. In the mean time, cable and satellite are the only choices, but HD-DVD will be in the market soon also.

hd en francais 19 dec 2021 j ai entendu de la bouche d un technicien de radio canada montreal qu il commencait la diffusion en hd le 13 janvier 2005 .est-ce vrai.ce serais les premier a le faire .merci.

Je ne sais pas le date précis mais c’est bien possible. J’ai envoyé une message à Radio Canada afin de le confirmer.

Je possède le modèle Sony KF-42WE610 depuis un an. Comme j'ai été très déçu de la qualité avec le récepteur Bell ExpressVU 6000 (vidéo "soft" des stations analogiques qui sont encore en onde), je voudrais me procurer un convertisseur HD pour recevoir directement les signaux "on the air". Je n'arrive pas à trouver sur le marché ces appareils. Bientôt le réseau de la SRC va diffuser en haute définition. Merci, en attendant votre réponse.

C’est un surpris que vous trouvez les images HD de l’ExpressVu « soft » car vous avez un des meilleurs téléviseurs HD disponibles au marché et le boîtier 6000 est bien connu pour une bonne réception des signaux HD numériques. Bien sur, les canaux analogiques apparaissent de mauvaise qualité sur un tel écran.
Les convertisseurs HD pour la réception des signaux HD diffusés ne sont pas vendus au Canada, à l’instant, mais sont disponibles des vendeurs Internet au Etats-Unis. Des produits de Samsung, RCA/Thomson et LGE/Zenith sont de bonne qualité. En plus, il existe une plaque « plug-in » pour le boîtier 6000 pour la réception des signaux diffusés. Contactez ExpressVu pour la disponibilité et détails.
Pour la réception terrestre, n’oubliez pas l’antenne. Au centre ville, une antenne intérieure est probablement suffisante, mais en les banlieues, une antenne extérieure est requise pour la bonne réception des programmes HD.
