I am a subcriber to Cogeco Cable's High Definition in Oakville. Cogeco uses Motorola's DCT 6208 receiver. I am having a problem with the closed captioning on some of the channels where the program is in the 16:9 format. The channels with the problem primarily are CFTOD, Fox2 Detroit, NBC Detroit and ABC Detroit. CBS Detroit is fine.

My problem is that the captioning on programs such as "Law & Order", "NYPD Blue" "24" and "ER" ususally are just a series of characters but occasionly the captioning will match the dialogue. In the case of the FOX channel it appears that when the dialogue wraps to a second line the second line doesn't appear. I have spoken to Cogeco and they claim the problem is with the stations as they as not including the captioning signal in high definition format. This seems far-fetched to me. I have also heard from Motorola and they suggest the need to update the firmware. Cogeco is using version 8.12.

Can anyone shed some light on what needs to be done to correct the problem as Cogeco seems clueless.

Thanks
