Screen burn
Will viewing TV signal @1080i with black boarders
16:9 harm the screen as far as burn in?

Comment from Admin
On a phosphor-based screen, such as CRT or Plasma, screen burn-in is a continuing problem and extended use of black borders is to be avoided. If the borders are light grey, the problem can be reduced but over time will still exist. Better to fill the screen when looking at 4:3 video, if at all possible and keep the screen brightness down, particularly if the screen is new. Avoid also leaving a static image on the screen for any length of time.

On screens of other technologies, such as LCD or DLP, burn-in is not a problem.
